Hyderabad: Unable to bear frequent power cuts, farmers from Kerelli, Ibbanur, Kondapur, Kurdu and Bacharam villages under Vikarabad constituency staged a protest on the Vikarabad-Tandur road on Thursday, demanding sufficient power supply.
The farmers squatted on the road and raised slogans against the State government. They said insufficient and erratic power supply was causing additional losses as agriculture pump sets motors were frequently getting burned out.
The farmers said power supply improved slightly at night, but the situation during the day was extremely difficult due to frequent interruptions. They alleged that electricity department staff were cutting power arbitrarily in the name of Line Clearance, making it difficult to ensure regular irrigation for their crops.
Although the State government had promised 24-hour quality power supply, the farmers expressed frustration that the assurance remained unfulfilled. They alleged that across substations and villages in the Vikarabad constituency, they were receiving quality power for only two to three hours a day.
