Electricity department playing a pivotal role in Telangana development: Dy.CM

Khammam: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the Electricity Department has been playing a pivotal role in the development of the State.
Addressing a gathering at the Telangana State Formation Day celebrations here on Tuesday, he noted that even though the peak electricity demand in the State had reached 18,542 megawatts, the department was providing an uninterrupted power supply without any outages.
Vikramarka revealed that, with a view to meeting the future requirements of Khammam district, works involving the construction of substations, installation of transformers and power lines, and underground cabling in Madhira had been undertaken at a cost of Rs 246 crore.
He said the government was implementing the ‘Green Energy Policy-2025′ with a target of generating 20,000 megawatts of renewable energy, attracting investments worth Rs 2 lakh crore and creating 1.15 lakh jobs by 2030.
In Khammam district, in addition to installing solar panels on government buildings, the government was encouraging the establishment of solar plants on farmers’ fields. Several areas, including Bonakal, were being developed as solar self-sufficient villages.
As many as 81 ‘Model Solar Villages’ were being established across the State at a cost of Rs 1,380 crore to provide solar power for domestic and agricultural needs, as well as to increase the use of sustainable energy resources, Vikramarka noted.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao attended the State Formation Day celebrations in Kothagudem. He paid tributes at the Martyrs’ Memorial and elaborated on the various development and welfare schemes being implemented in Telangana.
