Villagers shut down transformer to protest power issues in Telangana’s Narayanpet
Varkur villagers in Narayanpet protested by shutting down the electricity transformer for an hour, demanding action on long-standing power supply issues. Mandal Electricity Officer Gangadhar Rao assured a temporary fix and promised a full resolution soon
Narayanpet: Villagers of Varkur in Maganur mandal, Narayanpet district, staged a protest on Thursday night by shutting down the electricity transformer for an hour, expressing anger over the continued neglect of power supply issues.
At 8 pm, residents of Wards 9 and 10 led the protest, claiming that their areas had been facing transformer problems for several months, forcing them to spend nights in darkness. Despite repeated complaints to Mandal Electricity Officer Gangadhar Rao, the linemen allegedly neglected the issue, offering vague assurances instead.
“Who would care if there were power cuts only in our wards?” the villagers asked. They decided the problem would only be addressed if the entire village experienced darkness and collectively shut down the transformer, cutting power to all of Varkur.
Responding to the protest, Gangadhar Rao admitted that villagers had been raising the issue for the past 15 days but said repairs were delayed due to the rainy season. He assured that the fault would be temporarily fixed on Thursday and fully resolved soon.
