Visakhapatnam win overall title at 37th AP State Junior Inter-District Athletics Championships
Visakhapatnam emerged overall champions at the 37th AP State Junior Inter-District Athletics Championships in Tirupati with 231 points. Vizag athletes won both boys’ and girls’ team titles, while selected performers will represent Andhra Pradesh at the South Zone National Championships
Hyderabad: Visakhapatnam emerged overall champions in the 37th AP State Junior Inter-District Athletics Championships held at the S.V. University College Ground in Tirupati, securing 231 points.
The Vizag athletes also won the boys’ and girls’ team championships with 95 and 136 points, respectively.
Visakhapatnam clinched honours in the boys’ under-16, youth boys, girls’ under-16, youth girls under-18 and junior women (under-20) categories.
K. Raghavendra Vara Prasad (boys’ under-16) and Vathada Shyam Bhagavan (boys’ under-18) were named the ‘individual champions’ of the championship.
“This wonderful achievement is a result of the hard work and dedication of our athletes, the guidance of our coaches and the unwavering support of parents and well-wishers. This victory further reaffirms Visakhapatnam’s position as one of the leading districts in athletics in Andhra Pradesh,” D. Nageswara Rao, president of the Visakhapatnam Athletics Association, said.
The other office-bearers, Messrs J. Prithvi Raj, C. Ramaswamy and M. Narayana Rao, Advocate, also congratulated the athletes.
Selected athletes will now represent Andhra Pradesh at the upcoming South Zone National Athletics Championships to be held in September this year.
