Hyderabad: With the Covid cases registering a sharp rise in the last few days, several voluntary groups in the city are gathering their resources again to help people fight the battle against coronavirus.
Combat Covid, a group that received various awards and recognitions for their efforts to help the patients during the first and second waves, are ready to tackle any situation.
Hruday Charan Appani, who is an active member of the group and also distributed homemade food to the needy during the last waves, says the group is already working to get all the resources in place.
“Our group could reach out to thousands of people in Telangana during the last waves. In fact, we even helped people from other States. This time around we are gathering Covid-related information, such as lists of isolation centers, hospitals, oxygen suppliers, etc, from all over the country. We are planning on creating a website, where people will be able to find all the information in times of need. Our volunteers will be active and we will do our best to help people,” Hruday says.
Relief Riders, a group of cycling enthusiasts, have gathered about 150 volunteers ready for the third wave. “During the last wave, we managed to deliver essentials to people in need, especially those who were infected or too old to step out. This time we have alerted around 150 volunteers, who are ready to deliver medicines, groceries and other essentials to the vulnerable and elderly people,” says Ravi Sambari, a member of the group.
Several other commoners, who joined the battle against the virus by making meals for people and distributing them, are also looking at setting up infrastructure to ensure that they do not lose time if cases rise all of a sudden.
Bhargav Ventrapragada, who started the Helping Spot Organisation along with his wife Uma Maheshwari, has set up a free kitchen in Miyapur.
“We have also hired 18 people to help us run the kitchen, and some of them will be our delivery people. The aim is to prepare lunch and dinner for at least 400 people. Moreover, we are ready to hire more people if we need to scale up. Also, we have already sanitized about 50 old age homes and orphanages for the safety of their residents.”
