Wanaparthy: Former Minister S Niranjan Reddy has asserted that a vote for Congress in the ensuing municipal elections would be like offering licence to the State government for taking up reorganisation of districts.
He appealed to the people to understand the ‘motive’ behind the Congress government’s plans. It has been 10 years and people had got used to the new districts and infrastructure has been developed accordingly, he said at a press conference here on Monday.
The most important factor was the Presidential Order that was issued as per the districts formation. By getting these orders, the BRS government had ensured that 95 percent locals get jobs, he recalled.
“Now, with districts reorganization, the Congress government is trying to curtail job opportunities. By enacting the district reorganization drama, efforts are being made to provide opportunities for Andhra natives,” Niranjan Reddy slammed.
In Punjab and Haryana, when the districts were formed in the past, each district had a population of about four lakhs to five lakhs. There were about 41 districts in these two States, he said.
“The combined population of both Punjab and Haryana is a notch above three crore. The current population of Telangana is over four crores and there are 33 districts,” Niranjan Reddy said.
Hitting back at the Congress government for claiming to take up district reorganization scientifically, the former Minister said the past government had also taken up the exercise scientifically by constituting committee.
Notification was issued and people’s opinions and suggestions over the inclusion of mandals in different districts were taken into consideration. The entire exercise was conducted for a year, he reminded.
