Warangal Urban: Social activist and former chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of the erstwhile Warangal district, Mandala Parashuramulu, said on Saturday that many children aged below 14 years were still working at hazardous places and urged both the State and Central government to step up its measures to end this menace. He was speaking during a programme organised by Prerana Foundation on the occasion of the World Day Against Child Labour here at Balasamudram on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Parashuramulu also appealed to parents to send their children to schools. “All parents must utilise the world class facilities being provided by the Telangana government at the residential institutions. I urge all departments like labour, police, education, child protection and others to work in coordination to prepare action plan to stop child labour,” he added.

Meanwhile, social activist and founder of Darthi Bachavo, Mohammad Azam also expressed concern over the child labour problem in India and other parts of the world. “As per International Labour Organisation (ILO), one billion children are out of school, due to poverty, bonded labour, migration and lack of awareness among the parents on education,” he said and added that thousands of children are not getting proper schooling in remote areas in the State.
“According to a report by UNICEF, millions of children are vulnerable to COVID-19 pandemic. Due to COVID-19 many children lost their parents, family members and they do not have any moral or financial support,” he said and urged the government to look into this issue. He also appealed to NGOs, philanthropists and social activists to come forward to take the responsibility of orphans and also check child labour by providing free education facilities. Azam also added that he was making an action plan regarding eradication of Child Labour by collaborating with different like-minded NGOs.
Perana Foundation president Upender Reddy and others attended the programme.
