Warangal MP Kavya highlights key agricultural boosts for farmers in Lok Sabha
Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya on Tuesday highlighted agricultural schemes during her starred question in Lok Sabha, with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan responding. She stressed her role in voicing farmers’ concerns and noted that the Centre fixes Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 22 crops annually.
New Delhi: Warangal MP Dr. Kadiyam Kavya on Tuesday emphasised the significant strides in agricultural support following her starred question in Lok Sabha on various schemes, answered by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
“As a representative of farmers, I’m committed to ensuring their voices reach the highest levels. The government’s response underscores our collective efforts to uplift rural economies,” she stated.
Addressing Minimum Support Prices (MSP) and procurement, Dr. Kavya noted that the Centre fixes MSP for 22 mandated crops annually, adding that for the 2025-26 Kharif season, paddy (common) has been fixed at Rs 2,369/quintal and cotton (medium staple) at Rs 7,710/quintal.
She noted that in Warangal, 2.95 lakh bales of cotton and 15.56 lakh metric tonnes of paddy were procured in 2024-25, providing direct income support to farmers.
On irrigation, she referred to the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY), under which 106.75 lakh hectares have been brought under micro-irrigation through Per Drop More Crop (PDMC), with subsidies of up to 55 per cent for small farmers.
Under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP), 70 projects have been completed since 2016, creating 29.22 lakh hectares of potential, while Har Khet Ko Pani has developed 22.21 lakh hectares of command area.
Dr. Kavya praised Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for settling claims worth Rs 12,256 crore in 2024-25, benefiting 1,514 lakh farmers across 622 lakh hectares.
She said 16.90 lakh hectares have been covered under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY), aiding 28.24 lakh farmers with assistance of Rs 31,500 per hectare over three years.
“This data reflects progress, but we must push for more localised implementation,” Dr. Kavya urged.
