Warangal Urban: In a humanitarian gesture, Warangal police in association with the Medical and Health Department officials carried out Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) for Covid-19 on nearly 150 beggars and destitutes in the city on Monday. While the tests were conducted at Warangal bus station and Public Garden at Hanamkonda under the GWMC limits, seven beggars and destitutes tested positive for Covid-19.
Police Commissioner Tarun Joshi, who was present at the Public Garden, handed over fruits, meals and masks to the beggars and destitutes.
Speaking to the media, Joshi said they had come forward to conduct the camp for testing beggars and others in view of the sudden spike in the Covid cases. “People who tested positive for Covid-19 will be provided medicines and other essentials. The Health Department staff will monitor the health condition of these destitute regularly,” he added.
Deputy District Medical and Health Officer (DyDMHO) Yakub Pasha, DCP (Central Zone) Pushpa and others were present at the camps.
Meanwhile, Kazipet Inspector Ravula Narender, in association with voluntary organisations, handed over meals to around 60 beggars and destitutes at Kazipet Chowrasta and railway station as they were suffering due to the lockdown imposed across the State. These organisations have been handing over meal packets since the lockdown was enforced in the State last week.
