Hyderabad: The BRS office in Yadadri Bhongir district was attacked and vandalised by a mob of Congress party activists, including members of its youth and student wings, on Saturday evening.
The attack caused extensive damage to the office, including destruction of furniture, a television, and other electrical and electronic equipment. The incident triggered heightened tension in the district headquarters town.
The attackers attempted to assault BRS workers who tried to protect the office furniture and equipment. Despite the presence of police at the scene, the Congress workers did not relent.
The Congress workers had reportedly resorted to the attack in response to the criticism of the BRS district leaders at a news conference held in the party office. Some of the accused were taken into custody nearly three hours after the incident. The BRS party condemned the attack, attributing it to the Congress leaders’ inability to handle criticism of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s administration.
Former Minister and BRS leader Harish Rao called the attack a disgraceful act and criticised the Congress party for promoting a culture of violence. He demanded immediate action against the attackers and warned that such incidents would not be tolerated in the future.
BRS leader and MLC K Kavitha also condemned the attack, stating that it was a clear attempt to intimidate and silence the party’s leaders. She emphasised that the BRS party would not be cowed by such tactics and would continue to speak out against the Congress party’s failures.
Other BRS leaders voiced their concern over the increasing physical attacks on the BRS leaders and offices and called on the police to take swift action against the attackers and ensure that such incidents do not occur in future.
