Warangal: Normal life came to a standstill in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Mahabubabad after heavy rains lashed the region since Monday night, flooding streets and low-lying areas and confining many residents to their homes.
In Warangal, several colonies, including Hunter Road, NTR Nagar, Ramannapet, Shivanagar, Kareemabad and Sakarashi Kunta, were inundated. At DK Nagar near Ursugutta, rainwater entered homes, forcing residents to pump it out using buckets and utensils. Old Bitu Bazar, Clothes Bazar and neighbouring localities also reported flooding, with water entering the railway station.
Pedestrians waded through knee-deep water while motorists struggled to negotiate flooded roads. Traffic on the Warangal–Khammam main road was hit due to stagnant water.
Kazipet, Hasanparthy, Reddypuram, Gokul Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar and New Shayampet also faced flooding. The Hanamkonda bus stand junction was submerged, disrupting TGRTC services and causing severe inconvenience to passengers.
Sangem mandal received the highest rainfall of 20 cm, followed by Khila Warangal (14.8 cm), Wardhanapet (12 cm), Parvatagiri (10.7 cm), Warangal (9.5 cm) and Geesukonda (9.2 cm). Residents complained that no measures were taken by officials to ensure water flow downstream despite the forecast of heavy rains.
In Mahabubabad, Kothaguda, Gangaram and other mandals were pounded by heavy rain. Streams overflowed in areas such as Rallatoti on the Kothaguda fringes, while the Paleru stream overflowed at the Danthalapally–Peddamupparam bridge, cutting off traffic between villages and forcing motorists to take long detours.
