Watch: Heavy rains forecast for Telangana; residents and farmers worried in districts
With heavy rains lashing Telangana, three shepherds and over 100 sheep were rescued from a flooded stream in Kamareddy, while fears of soil erosion near Laknapur project in Vikarabad grew. IMD issued red and orange alerts for several districts.

HYDERABAD: With heavy rains forecast being issued for the next couple of days in a few districts, residents in low lying areas and farmers are a worried lot.
Three shepherds along with 500 sheep were stranded due to the overflowing stream at Shetlur in Kamareddy district.
Residents of Gundekalluru village, the three shepherds along with their sheep had crossed the stream for grazing. However, due to the heavy rainfall and the overflowing stream, they got surrounded by water.
Immediately, the locals alerted the district officials. A team of police, fire and others commenced rescue operations. The officials have deployed boats and life jackets to get them to the shore. After about two hours, the three shepherds and about 100 sheep were rescued. SDRF teams are continuing operations to rescue other sheep.
Likewise, the Kaulasnala project in Kamareddy is receiving heavy inflows due to the incessant rains since the last two days. The irrigation department officials have opened five gates of the project to release water downstream.
The project is receiving 28,000 cusecs inflows and officials are releasing 30,000 cusecs downstream.
A few houses in low lying areas were inundated at Kamalapuram village in Mulugu district. Residents are carrying their essential commodities and relocating to safe places.
Similarly, a few colonies were covered under sheets of water near Gamponigudem fuel station and Gromor outlet at Mangapet mandal. Many agricultural fields have also been covered under sheets of water.
Residents worried over soil erosion at Laknapur
Residents near the Laknapur project in Vikarabad are worried over soil erosion at the project. The soil beneath the railing set up at the project eroded and a huge pit had formed right next to the project.
Residents alleged that officials had not bothered to inspect the project. Precautionary measures should be taken up immediately, failing which a major mishap can occur, a resident was seen saying in a video circulating in social media.
MET department forecast of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological department said very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall was likely to occur at isolated places in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mahabubabad districts till 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall was expected at different places in Jayashankar Bhupalpally. Heavy rainfall was likely in Adilabad, Hanamkonda, Kamareddy, Khammam, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Medak, Nirmal, Sangareddy, Suryapet, Vikarabad and Warangal districts.
The MET department said thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30 kmph to 40 kmph were likely to occur in all districts in the State.
