Wanaparthy: Tension prevailed at the MPDO office in Amarchinta mandal here on Tuesday after the house owner locked up the office and threatened to set himself ablaze as the government was not paying rent.

In a video that is circulating in social media platforms, the house owner Surender can be seen saying that he would not open the office till the rents were paid by the government.

“My father Ranga Rao died last year. Rs.4 lakh rent is being delayed and when the MPDO is requested to clear the rent, he does not take any action. I am vexed and will set myself and my children ablaze,” Surender is seen saying in the video.

After the office was locked, the MPDO spoke to the Circle Inspector and a constable was sent here, he said, asking “Did I commit any theft. This is my house and I appeal to the government to pay the rent and vacate the premises,”

This is not an isolated incident. In October, nearly 20 government residential schools were closed by the owners in different areas in Nirmal, Mancherial, Adilabad and other places demanding payment of rents. They had even fixed posters on the school gates about the delay in payment of rents by the government.
