The particular news was planted by a former Jana Shakti naxalite, with an aim to create fear and thereby extort money from people. This fact came to light after the arrest of a former Jana Shakti naxalite, proved the news as false. In order to extort money by creating tension among the public, businessmen, and contractors, some former extremists had spread false rumors.

Producing the accused before mediapersons in Sircilla on Thursday, SP Rahul Hegde said that while investigating the news reported in the media, police arrested former naxalite Gunnala Laxman on the outskirts of Vemulawada town on Wednesday evening. Laxman was also accused in an attempt to murder case.

He confessed to spreading the rumour along with another former extremist Pothugal Surender @ Suresh @ Vishwanath and few others that Janashakthi meetings were held in the district. They spread the rumor to extort money by creating tension among the public, contractors and business people. The SP informed that a fortnight ago, Surender, Laxman and three of their associates warned one Rajammallaiah of Vemulwada municipality of Rajammallaiah with dire consequences if he failed to hand over two and half guntas of land occupied by him at Nandi Kaman chowk to them.

As he refused to hand over the land, they decided to kill Rajammallaiah. While Laxman was waiting for three others to execute their plan, police arrested him and recovered single bore thapancha from him. SP informed to arrest three others who were absconding. The SP said that people need not to worry since there was no activity of Janashakthi in the district. He asked the people to inform the nearby police station if anybody makes threatening calls in the name of Janashakthi.
