Sangareddy: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B Mahesh Kumar Goud has stirred controversy by alleging that the PC Ghose Commission found former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao responsible for poor quality works in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), even though the report has not been made public.
During his padayatra in Andole constituency on Saturday, Goud claimed the commission had “indicted Chandrashekhar Rao for massive financial irregularities in KLIP”. However, the fact is that the Ghose Commission report was only recently submitted to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who formed a three-member committee comprising senior IAS officers to study it. The report’s contents have not been officially released.
Despite not being part of the government machinery, Goud’s comments gave the impression that he had prior access to the report, leaving many surprised.
Addressing a meeting of Congress cadre at a private function hall near Andole, Goud alleged that Chandrashekhar Rao had squandered lakhs of crores on KLIP. He said although the BRS government had claimed to have spent Rs. 80,000 crore, the actual waste was significantly higher. He accused Chandrashekhar Rao of constructing the project with substandard quality, adding that it was “on the verge of collapse”.
The PCC president also alleged that the BRS government had deliberately shifted the project’s original location and inflated the budget to Rs. 1 lakh crore from the earlier Rs. 40,000 crore to secure commissions from contractors.
Goud also claimed that the people of Telangana had voted the Congress to power precisely to investigate such large-scale irregularities carried out by the BRS regime over the past decade.
