Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Two youngsters reportedly managed to escape from being attacked by a tiger which was standing on a road and was trailing motorists at Yetiguda village in Bejjur mandal on Wednesday. The message went viral on social media platforms

Sources said that the two youngsters spotted a big cat which was sitting on the road. The two ran away from the spot and saved their lives by climbing a tall tree. They were proceeding to Bejjur mandal centre from Kammargaon village at the time of the incident, according to the message which was circulated on a WhatsApp group.

Bejjur Forest Range Officer P Dayakar denied claims of the youngsters. He said that a tiger was crossing the road which was its track. The tiger did not try to attack the duo, nor trailed them. I was in the field for tracking the movement of carnivores and I spoke to the two. The big cats inhabiting the wild are not ferocious. They do not harm humans. They feed on cattle and wild boars, he explained.

Forest authorities said that two tigers were residing in the forests of Bejjur range. They migrated here from neighboring Tadoba-Andheri Tiger Reserve many years back and settled in the wild of Bejjur. The tiger which recently killed a tribal youngster of Digida village in Penchikalpet mandal returned to Maharashtra from where it strayed into the forests of Kaghaznagar division, stated an official.

Meanwhile, villagers in Kammargaon, Gundepalli, Nandigaon, Murliguda and Jilleda are in the grip of panic following the sighting of the big cat on the road connecting Bejjur and Kammargaon. They are frightened to visit Bejjur mandal headquarters for buying groceries and medical needs in the wake of the movement of the carnivore.  They requested foresters to take steps for diverting the solitary animal to deep forests.
