Woman dies by suicide following a dispute over Rs 100 in Mahabubabad
A 55-year-old woman in Mahabubabad allegedly died by suicide after a dispute over Rs 100 escalated into a physical assault. Her family staged a protest, and police have registered a case and launched an investigation
Mahabubabad: A 55-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide following a dispute over payment of Rs 100 in Kuravi mandal of Mahabubabad district.
According to family members, the deceased, Tejavath Kanthi of Surya Thanda in the mandal, went to pick chillies in a farm field in a neighbouring village on Sunday. In the evening, she asked a fellow labourer who worked in the field with her about Rs 100 due to her.
The family of the other woman came to Kanthi’s house on Monday morning and a dispute broke out between them over the money, during which Kanthi was allegedly beaten up by members of the rival family.
Unable to bear the humiliation, Kanthi allegedly hanged herself at her residence. Her family members staged a protest in front of the house of those who allegedly attacked her. On receiving information, the local police reached the village and took steps to prevent any untoward incident.
Based on a complaint by Kanthi’s family, police registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
