Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old woman travelling alone in the ladies’ coach was allegedly raped and robbed by an unidentified man while the train was running between Guntur and Peddakurapadu stations aboard Santragachi Special Express on Monday night.

According to the complaint filed with the Government Railway Police (GRP), Secunderabad, the victim, a resident of Rajamundry, boarded the train at Rajahmundry to travel to Charlapalli for work. Around 8 pm, when the train halted at Guntur, a man aged about 40 years, wearing a black shirt and grey trousers, entered the ladies’ coach despite being warned by the woman.

Once the train resumed its journey, the suspect allegedly threatened her with a knife, assaulted her, and raped her. He then reportedly stole her handbag containing cash of Rs 5,600 and a mobile phone before jumping off the moving train near Peddakurapadu station.

The woman travelled up to Charlapalli railway station and lodged a complaint with the GRP officials in Secunderabad.

GRP officials said a Zero FIR was registered and transferred to Nadikudi Police Station in Andhra Pradesh on point of jurisdiction for further investigation.

Police teams have launched efforts to trace the accused based on the victim’s description.
