Kothagudem: The principal and warden of Telangana Tribal Welfare Gurukula Girls’ College in Bhadrachalam were suspended after students found worms in the breakfast served to them on Friday.
A Padmavathi, the college principal, and B Rajeswari, the warden, were suspended for dereliction of duty, according to an order issued on Sunday by Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWREIS) secretary K Seetha Lakshmi.
The incident triggered a protest by around 600 students who brought the matter to the staff’s attention after spotting worms in the khichdi.
Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Project Officer B Rahul stated that the infestation was due to old rice stock — about 19 quintals — supplied by the DM civil supplies department. The contaminated rice was returned to the Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC), and clean rice was sourced as a replacement. He said measures were being taken to prevent such lapses in the future.
