The Telangana High Court has directed the State government to submit an explanation concerning a recent food poisoning incident affecting 111 students at a government Gurukul in Nagarkurnool district.
The Democratic Students Federation staged a protest in Kothagudem demanding a probe into food poisoning cases in Gurukuls. The DSFI also called for immediate release of pending scholarships, filling of teacher posts, and greater budget allocation to the education sector

Sailaja was hospitalized with food poisoning at the Gurukul in Wankidi during the first week of this month, along with several other students. As her condition worsened, she was transferred to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), where she was placed on a ventilator for treatment.
