Hyderabad: Surgeons at Medicover Hospitals, Hitech city have successfully reattached middle and ring fingers of the left hand of a 23-year-old male, who had sustained the injury while working with wood cutting machinery.

While working with wood cutting machinery, the youngster’s middle and ring fingers of his left hand were amputated along with a crush injury of his index finger. He was rushed to Medicover Hospitals with properly preserved amputated fingers and was taken up for emergency surgery by Hand and Microvascular Surgeon, Medicover Hospitals, Dr. R. Suneel.

“His middle and ring fingers were reattached with microscopic precision during a surgery, which lasted over four, and a half hours. The blood supply to the cut fingers was restored and nerves and tendons were repaired after fixation of bone,” doctors said.

“Most of the people are unaware of the fact that dismembered fingers can be replanted if it is attended immediately. People tend to ignore and in the process lose their fingers. Timely action helps restore the functionality of the fingers,” Dr Suneel added.
