Hyderabad: A moving car caught fire at Malkajgiri here on Saturday afternoon. No casualties were reported as the driver and a passenger escaped from the vehicle on seeing flames from the engine.

The incident occurred around 2.30 pm when the car was proceeding from AS Rao Nagar towards Malkajgiri.

According to the police, on seeing flames and smoke suddenly emanating from the engine, the duo stopped the car on the road and rushed out of it. Motorists passing by noticed the fire and alerted the fire department and police.

Officials from the Malkajgiri Traffic Police rushed to the spot and the fire was doused immediately. The car was partially damaged in the fire.

A short circuit in the engine is suspected to have led to the fire. The police are investigating.
