Hyderabad: The 78th batch of regular recruits at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) will take part in the Dikshant Parade on October 17, marking the completion of the first phase of their basic training, with 151 officer trainees, including 135 IPS probationers and 16 foreign officers, set to participate.
The batch comprises 37 women officers, while the foreign trainees are from Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives.
The IPS probationers joined the academy in Hyderabad on December 8, 2025, after completing their 15-week Foundation Course at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration in Mussoorie. Their training at the police academy includes law, investigation, forensics, internal security, public order, criminology, police management and human rights, along with physical fitness, weapons training, drill, yoga and field tactics.
The trainees will proceed to Delhi for a four-week attachment with Central Police Organisations (CPOs) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), besides visits to key institutions and interactions with senior constitutional and government functionaries. Their exposure will include attachments with the Central Reserve Police Force and the Indian Army.
The training programme also includes police station visits, crowd management during major events, election-related attachments, and specialised modules with Telangana’s Greyhounds, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Border Security Force (BSF). Trainees are also exposed to prisons, hospitals and shelters for victims of human trafficking.
With policing challenges evolving, the academy has incorporated focused training on cybercrime, cyber fraud and financial fraud, cryptocurrency, darknet operations, drug trafficking, drone threats, artificial intelligence and social media. Practical exercises on investigative tools and the implementation of the new criminal laws form part of the curriculum.
After completing 49 weeks of Phase-I training, the probationers will undergo 29 weeks of district practical training in their respective cadres or States. They will return to the academy on June 21, 2027, for a nine-week Phase-II programme, which includes leadership training and specialised institutional attachments.
