Coinciding with the Athmeeya Sammelanam, the militia members surrendered. The SP said that the 22 militia members decided to surrender to Kothagudem police as they were impressed with the rehabilitation policy offered by the Telangana government. SP Rohith Raju said that in the past one year, as many as 36 members of the Maoist party in various cadres from the district have surrendered after being attracted to the welfare programmes being carried out by the district police.

Essential commodities and other goods were distributed to the families of the 36 surrendered Maoists. The police department would always support the surrendered Maoists and take the responsibility to see that all the benefits offered by the government reaches them.

The district police have been working to provide education, medical and transport facilities to the adivasis in remote agency areas. Necessary facilities would be provided to adivasi youths living and studying in the Maoist affected areas so that they could secure jobs, Rohith Raju said.

Issues being faced by the students in getting caste certificates would be taken to the attention of the District Collector in order to address the problem as soon as possible. Later, the police officials joined a community meal organised for the surrendered Maoists and their families.

The SP appreciated Cherla CI Raju Varma, Dummugudem CI Ashok and SI Narsi Reddy for successfully organising the Athmeeya Sammelanam.
