Hyderabad: Even as the State government has started shifting families living in tiny sheds on the Musi riverbed to the government’s 2BHK houses in Chanchalguda and other areas, the actual beneficiaries of the double bedrooms are getting worried as they fear that they may lose the houses promised to them and are now questioning the move of the government.
About 284 houses were constructed in Pilligudiselu near Chanchalguda, of which 142 were distributed among beneficiaries while the remaining 142 were vacant. On Friday, officials handed over documents of 2BHK houses located at Chanchalguda and Jiyaguda government sites to 20 families residing on the Musi riverbed. As the news spread that the government was allotting the vacant houses to Musi project oustees, several beneficiaries reached the 2BHK sites and started enquiring about their fate.
Beneficiaries from Jiyaguda and other locations where 2BHK houses were constructed by the previous government are worried as the Congress government has announced that it will be providing houses to over 15,000 families being displaced from the Musi riverbed.
They argued that the authorities had handed over 68,841 2BHKs to beneficiaries in the GHMC limits and about 31,000 were under various stages of construction. If the government hands over 15,000 houses to families being displaced from the Musi riverbed, then a large number of people who were waiting for these houses are likely to be left out.
The beneficiaries claimed that they got the houses after scrutiny of their applications and lottery and that if the government tried to give their houses to people being displaced from Musi riverbed, they would not remain silent. Already beneficiaries have started staging protests against the government’s move. On Friday, beneficiaries staged a protest at Uppal and on Saturday a large number of them gathered at Jubilee Hills, Rahmat Nagar, Kamala Nagar and Bahadurpura 2BHK sites and demanded the government not to allot their houses to the Musi project oustees.
Recently, applicants for 2BHK houses from different parts of the city met at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram, Baghlingampally and demanded that the government allocate them the houses.
