DSP Venkteshwar Rao briefs about the arrests of transformer lifters in Adilabad on Wednesday.
Adilabad: Four persons including an owner of a scrap shop were arrested for allegedly stealing electricity transformers from rural parts of the district and causing losses to farmers. As many as 70 kg of copper wire worth Rs 50,000 and an auto-rickshaw were recovered from their possession.
Producing them before the media here on Wednesday, Adilabad DSP Venkateshwar Rao said the accused were Jadav Santhosh, an autorickshaw driver, Mandavakar Adinath and Sarolla Ganesh, all residents of KRK Colony in Adilabad town and Mohd Rafeeq Siddiqui alias English Rafeeeq from Panjesha Colony of the district headquarters. Two more accused Endrala Mahender and Jawan Prakash are still at large.
Santosh, Adinath and Ganesh were held when they were moving suspiciously in the auto-rickshaw during a vehicle check carried out at Sunkidi village in Talamadugu Mandal.
During the course of interrogation, the trio confessed to committing the offence for easy money in the last two months. They said they sold the copper wire extracted from the transformers to Rafeeq. They disclosed that they had stolen transformers installed in agriculture fields under Talamdugu, Mavala, Jainath, and Utnoor police stations.
In-charge Superintendent of Police M Rajesh Chandra commended Adilabad Rural Inspector K Purushottam Chary, Talamadugu Sub-Inspector P Divya Bharati, Adilabad Rural Sub-Inspector A Haribabu, trainee SI Sravanthi, head constable Rajanna, constable Gangadhar and Gajanand for arresting the gang which was lifting transformers within 10 days. A task force team was formed recently to chase the gang, he added.
