820-foot pedestrian bridge in Canada sets Guinness World Record
The Pickering pedestrian bridge, which was built by Metrolinx over Highway 401 – measuring an awe-inspiring 820 feet, was recently verified by the Guinness as the world’s longest enclosed pedestrian bridge.
Hyderabad: An 820-feet bridge suspended over an Ontario highway in Canada has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest enclosed pedestrian bridge ever built.
The Pickering pedestrian bridge, which was built by Metrolinx over Highway 401 – measuring an awe-inspiring 820 feet, was recently verified by the Guinness as the world’s longest enclosed pedestrian bridge.
The bridge connects the Pickering Go Train station to the Pickering Town Centre – spanning 14 lanes of Highway 40, six railway tracks, and a whole city road.
Metrolinx spokeswoman Anne Marie Aikins said the bridge was completed in September 2018 but the transit agency decided to apply for the Guinness World Record in 2020.
“We knew we had something special and we couldn’t find another one around the world that was the same length and that made us think we should see if it’s the longest, and sure enough, it is,” Aikins told ‘CTV News’.
However, the application and approval process for the record was completed after a year.
