Khammam: Polling for Khammam Local Authorities’ Constituency (LAC) MLC election passed off amid mild tensions on Friday with 96.09 percent voters casting their vote.
Congress leaders staged a protest in Khammam complaining that ZP Chairman L Kamal Raju and others remained in the polling station even after casting their vote. Police had intervened and dispersed the protesting leaders.
In Kothagudem, Congress leader N Seetharamulu and others staged a dharna over the failure of the officials to remove a flexi banner of local MLA V Venkateshwara Rao near RDO office polling station. Later officials covered the banner with a cloth.
Polling started on a dull note and during the first two hours only 50 voters cast their vote. By 10 am the voting percentage was 6.51 and it picked up momentum later in the day.
Out of 768 voters in Khammam and Kothagudem, Garla and Bayyaram mandals of Mahabubabad district under Khammam LAC, 738 voters cast their vote at four polling stations in erstwhile Khammam.
Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MP, Nama Nageswara Rao and MLA Bhatti Vikramarka cast their vote in Khammam while independent candidate Srinivasa Rao cast his vote at Kallur RDO office.
District Collector VP Gautham and the election general observer C Sudharshan Reddy visited Khammam RDO office polling station and monitored the voting process.
