Hyderabad: When businessman and CEO of Spartans Media Kanthi Dutt joined hands with fashion designer, model and fitness expert Shilpa Reddy to launch the e-commerce marketplace SustainKart on January 1 2021, they were not beginning just another business venture. The move was a mission, one that they wanted to change the spending pattern of Indians for their lifestyle commodities.
Talking about their collaboration, Kanthi Dutt says: “I have always witnessed Shilpa Reddy’s love for nature and the environment. She practices what she says. During the lockdown, I wanted to do something more gratifying and approached her. We came up with the idea of doing a Sustainable Living with Shilpa Reddy show on YouTube and that happened in October 2020. This instantly resonated with her philosophy and the show took off. Through the show, we realised the need of the market and again, very instantly, our ideology with SustainKart matched and we are here today, curating India’s first e-commerce platform for a sustainable living. The platform will be open for commercial operations from January 26.”
Shilpa Reddy who interviewed celebrities like Akkineni Nagarjuna, Amala, Sridevi Jasthi and Samrat Reddy to mention a few, has always talked about environment and nature on her social media platforms. “I resonated with Kanthi’s idea to create awareness from a larger platform and we launched the show. During the show, we saw immense compatibility with each other and being an entrepreneur myself, I saw the spark in him with business acumen that he could bring to the table. With my good-will, creativity and passion backed by his entrepreneurial skills, it clicked very instantly for us. We both were at a point in our lives where we were seeking gratitude and curate responsible ventures,” says Shilpa.
Through SustainKart, people will be guided to change spending patterns towards more responsible lifestyle choices with everything that is nature-friendly. This is their mission and vision, they insist, adding that it is also the need of the hour. The website will host different categories such as fashion, gifting, décor, furniture, kids, food and nutrition, wellness and pet care which will bring in a wide range of products that are cruelty-free, organic, earthy and recyclable sourced from nature’s best.
“We have collaborated with several artisans and brands from across India. Our special focus is on small scale industries to give them a platform where they can meet buyers directly” concludes Kanthi.
