You have to believe in yourself that whenever you get a chance, you have to perform. And at the end of the day, the team should win. Two points are more important, the 37-year-old, leg-spinner Karn Sharma said
HYDERABAD: For the 37-year-old, leg-spinner Karn Sharma of Mumbai Indians it was a fairytale comeback, playing a game after a gap of six years, when he returned with a match-winning spell of 4-0-36-3 against Delhi Capitals in the IPL league match in Delhi on Sunday night
“My role was just to take wickets in between. So, Mitchell Sandner and I had to take wickets in between. You can call it a game-changing moment, but when the ball was going one way, it was wet while it was coming back. But our situation was that we had to take wickets at some point,” Karn said in the post-match briefing.
“And when a new seam comes from the ball chain, it’s a little upright, so it gives you a purchase from the wicket. So, we benefited from that. Actually, IPL is such a tournament that you can’t predict whether you’ll be playing 11 or 12,” a modest Karn explained.
“You have to believe in yourself that whenever you get a chance, you have to perform. And at the end of the day, the team should win. Two points are more important,” he said.
“So, at the end of the day, when I wake up in the morning, I tell myself that it’s a new day. A new opportunity will come. I just have to wait for that,” he said.
“Actually, I’ve played a lot in Delhi. I’m from Meerut. So, I know how the ball will go on the wicket. But I didn’t expect that there would be dew,” Karn said.
“As a cricketer, you remember that you have won the team in such a tough time. So, I remember all these things as a cricketer. You win only when the team is good. One player can’t do anything,” he signed off.
