Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday caught an Inspector of Police and a home guard attached to Mirchowk police station when they demanded a bribe of Rs. 6 lakh and accepted part payment of Rs. 3 lakh as a bribe.
According to the ACB, M. Kondal Rao, Station House Officer Mirchowk, allegedly demanded the money from a man for closing a case registered against the complainant’s father, avoiding coercive action and providing support in the future. The inspector allegedly received the part payment through home guard Abid Ali.
The ACB’s team on a complaint laid a trap and caught the home guard when the bribe amount of Rs. 3 lakh was accepted. The tainted money was recovered from the possession of the home guard, the ACB said.
The bureau alleged that the inspector and the home guard had acted dishonestly to obtain undue advantage by misusing their official positions.
Both officials are being arrested and being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand.
