Adilabad: Legislators flayed the Union government for its refusal to procure paddy produced in Telangana during Yasangi season. They staged protests in headquarters of their respective Assembly constituencies and later submitted representations to district Collectors concerned over anti-farmer policies being implemented by the Centre, across the erstwhile Adilabad district on Friday.
In Adilabad district headquarters, senior MLA Jogu Ramanna led a dharna staged in front of the Collectorate. He criticised the Union government for announcing that it would not buy paddy produced in the Yasangi season. He charged that the Centre had no concern towards welfare of the agrarian community and was harassing the farmers by implementing anti-farmer policies.
In Mancherial, Government Whip and Chennur MLA Balka Suman expressed anguish over the Union government and stated that farmers would bury it for bringing tears to them.
Sirpur (T) MLA Koneru Konappa participated in a massive dharna held in Kaghaznagar town. Farmers belonging to seven mandals made a beeline to the town and expressed solidarity. He earlier took out a massive rally from his camp office to the statue of Samala Sadashiva.
Similar protests were witnessed in Mancherial, Boath, Mudhole, Khanapur, Bellampalli and Asifabad towns which saw participation of local MLAs. The legislators later represented Revenue Divisional Officers seeking their intervention in making the Centre procure the grains.
