Collector Sikta Patnaik and ZPTC member Charulata join the women celebrators at the 282nd birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Sevalal Maharaj organized in Ramleela ground in Adilabad on Wednesday.
Adilabad: Zilla Parishad Chairman Rathod Janardhan urged the public to emulate teachings and ways propounded by Sant Sevalal, the spiritual leader of Lambada or Banjara community. He, along with local MLA Jogu Ramanna, took part in the 282nd birth anniversary celebrations of Sri Sevalal Maharaj organised at the Ramleela ground on a grand note, here on Wednesday.
Addressing a gathering, Janardhan advised the members of the community and others to espouse ideals and teachings of Sevalal. He requested the government to grant two cows to each family of this caste to empower them financially, and to sanction funds for the construction of a Banjar Bhavan community hall in Adilabad town.
Ramanna said that the government was striving for the growth and welfare of the Banjara community. He cited that it was releasing funds to observe the birth anniversary of the spiritual leader as a State festival and for providing bullocks and electric motors to eligible tribals under ‘Giri Vikasam’. He added that he would request the government to give cows to the tribals soon.
Rathod stated that the government addressed the long-pending drinking water crisis of the tribal hamlets by taking up the ambitious Mission Bhageeratha scheme. He stated that Telanganaku Harita Haram was being implemented for achieving ecological balance and to protect the environment.
Collector Sikta Patnaik suggested the citizens to follow two important commandments—non-violence and Satya or truth–practiced and preached by Sevalal. She wanted the members to wear face masks and to practice physical distance for curtailing the spread of the deadly coronavirus. She added that the district administration was taking steps to ensure fruits of development reach the tribal communities.
Earlier, the dignitaries participated in traditional rituals performed to mark the birth celebrations of the spiritual leader. They were felicitated by organisers of the event for gracing the occasion. Banjara artistes performed dance and cultural programmes, enthralling the audience. Leaders of the community represented the Collector, MLA and ZP chairperson over their challenges.
Boath MLA Rathod Bapu Rao, District Central Cooperative Bank Chairman Kamble Namdev, Adilabad Agriculture Market Committee chairman Mettu Prahlad, ZPTC members Anil Jadav, Sudhakar, Charulata and members of the organising committee Rama Rao and Gugloth Bapu Rao were present.
