Hyderabad: The city-based Asian Institute of Gastroenterology (AIG) Hospitals on Sunday launched its latest cutting-edge research facility, the Centre for Microbiome Research India, a dedicated, integrated hub envisioned to advance gut microbiome–based research and therapeutics for chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
Conceptualised by Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals, the Centre will be dedicated to translating cutting-edge science into meaningful, patient-centric clinical care, a press release said. The facility was inaugurated by Prof. Emad El-Omar, a reputed gut microbiome researcher, who will also join the Centre as a Special Scientific Advisor.
The Centre for Microbiome Research India has been designed as a fully integrated ecosystem bringing together clinicians, wet-lab scientists, and computational researchers to work collaboratively on advanced gut microbiome science.
Its primary focus will be on developing microbiome-based insights and therapeutic strategies for chronic and increasingly prevalent gastrointestinal conditions such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), fatty liver disease, obesity and other metabolic diseases, pancreatitis, and many complex GI disorders that pose a growing public health challenge in India and globally, Dr Nageshwar Reddy said.
