Adilabad: The 90th anniversary of All India Radio (AIR) was celebrated on a colourful note on the premises of the public broadcaster’s Adilabad station. Collector Rajarshi Shah was the chief guest and flagged off a walkathon on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Shah said that the AIR Adilabad station was a boon to the people of the district. He said the station was playing a vital role in disseminating information about welfare schemes to the public. He remarked that it had been instrumental in spreading awareness about welfare schemes such as TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Arogya Pathashala and various initiatives sponsored by Krishi Vigyan Kendra among tribals living in remote areas.
He was all praise for the station for both protecting and carrying forward distinct tribal cultures and traditions to future generations by airing creative and unique programmes. He said steps would be taken to exhibit tribal arts and archives belonging to aboriginal communities. He recalled that the country came to know about the significance of Mahua laddu, produced and consumed by tribals in Adilabad, through Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme.
The Collector later presented mementos to officials of the station. Tribal artistes presented cultural programmes and sang songs, enthralling dignitaries and the audience. A festival-like atmosphere prevailed at the station.
AIR-Adilabad was established on October 12, 1986, broadcasting on a 1-KW AM transmitter. It was one of the first local radio stations of AIR. It migrated to FM broadcasting on August 15, 2015.
