Akshara Vaagdevi International School in collaboration with Pallavi Model Schools conducted a special assembly on Book Review Competition on October 23. The guest for the day was Shaanthi Modaali, a soft skills trainer.
The programme commenced with the lighting of a lamp, followed by a prayer and pledge from grade IX students. Principal Vanaja welcomed Shaanti Modaali and thanked her for sparing her valuable time to spend with the little champs of Akshara. Shaanthi shared her inputs on the English language and stated that it is a widely spoken language and barriers are broken where the world is meeting globally at the small screen through the power of the internet. She described the English language as a lingua franca which refers to the teaching, learning, and use of the English language as a common means of communication for speakers of different native languages.
A volley of questions was put to the students to which they responded enthusiastically. One such question was about the analogy of healing the mind by books for our body fitness. Then it was extended over to the English department’s faculty Hema to have a few words on the importance of books, highlighting ethical duties and regarding the Book review competition with a ppt slide show.
The students were also very sportive and enthusiastic in the discussion with a lot of zeal. Impressed with their participation, Shaanthi complimented the Principal for the student’s attentiveness. She also gave the students tips on how to write a book, which was very useful to them. A vote of thanks was proposed by Radhika Laxmi in the end.
