Industrialist Anand Mahindra, who is quite active on Twitter, now posted a video of a 10-year-old practising Kalaripayattu with sheer concentration.
Posting the clip, Anand Mahindra wrote: “WARNING: Do NOT get in this young woman’s way! And Kalaripayattu needs to be given a significantly greater share of the limelight in our sporting priorities. This can — and will — catch the world’s attention.”
As he tweeted, several netizens started pointing out that self-defence is important for a woman but a man as well.
However, there is a twist to the tale. The video is actually of a 10-year-old boy practising Kalaripayattu. As Anand Mahindra’s post goes viral, the boy from his Twitter account @PrinceKalari wrote in the comments to clarify that he is growing hair for an upcoming performance. “I am not a girl. I am a 10-year-old boy,” he wrote.
Nevertheless, netizens seemed to enjoy watching the video and were all praises for the boy. Many also wished him luck to popularise the ancient martial art form further. The boy was later identified as Neelakandan Nair, a student of the Ekaveera Kalaripayattu Academy in Kerala.
Kalaripayattu, originated in modern-day Kerala, was designed for the ancient battlefield with weapons that are unique to India, such as daggers, sticks and swords.
