Karimnagar: Eggs supplied through anganwadi centres for children were found in the permit room of a wine shop in Huzurabad town, raising concerns over misuse of government welfare supplies.
Children between seven months and three years are supplied eggs through anganwadi centres. To check diversion, the State government stamps eggs with the anganwadi logo before distribution.
However, a few stamped eggs were found in the permit room of Renuka Yellamma Wine Shop in Huzurabad.
On learning about the incident, CDPO Suguna of the Huzurabad project conducted an inquiry on Friday, visiting both the wine shop and the Rangapur anganwadi centre from where the eggs had been distributed.
She clarified that the eggs were not illegally sold to the wine shop by anganwadi staff but had reached the shop through beneficiaries.
It was found that the daughters of a man employed at the wine shop belonged to Rangapur. Two women had collected eggs from the anganwadi centre for their children. Since they and their families were not consuming eggs for the past two months owing to Sravanamasam and other festivals, they passed them on to their parents to consume, not to sell in the shop. The women also submitted written undertakings, the CDPO said.
Suguna added that a case would be registered against the wine shop after the inquiry process is completed.
