Another student injured in suicide bid as she jumps off hostel building in Telangana’s Mancherial
A Class IX student at KGBV in Mancherial allegedly attempted suicide due to hostel-related distress. This marks the third such incident in the district after two degree students from a local residential college died in similar circumstances in recent months
Mancherial: A student sustained injuries when she reportedly attempted to kill herself by jumping off a hostel building at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Naspur mandal centre on Monday.
According to police, Madhu Likhitha, a Class IX student studying at KGBV-Naspur from Dandepalli mandal, reportedly attempted suicide as she was disinterested in continuing her studies by staying in a hostel. She broke both her legs and was rushed to a hospital in Mancherial town. Her condition was learnt to be stable.
This is the third instance in the district. Kummari Swapna, a 19-year-old student of the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College (TSRDC) for Girls-Mancherial, succumbed to injuries sustained in a suspected suicide attempt on June 27. She died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hyderabad. She hailed from Marthidi village in Bejjur mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
She reportedly left her hostel room on the night of June 24 on the pretext of using the washroom and reportedly jumped off the building. A four-member committee, comprising the District Minority Welfare Officer, Social Welfare Officer, Agriculture Officer, and a psychiatrist, was constituted to probe the incident. Investigating officials stated that the motive behind the suspected suicide was yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, on April 24, Laxmi Prasanna (19), also a second-year degree student at the same college, died while undergoing treatment after allegedly jumping off the hostel building. Her death triggered widespread outrage, with her family staging a protest demanding justice.
