Hyderabad: Tension prevailed when several ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers demanding hike in remuneration, protested in DME office campus at Koti on Monday.
During the protests, an angry ASHA worker, who was forced into a police van, started shouting when her leg got stuck in the police vehicle’s door. Writhing in pain, in a quick response, the ASHA worker slapped Sultan Bazaar Inspector Srinivas Chary.
On witnessing this incident unfold, other senior police officers and women constables, who were present at the spot, overpowered her and forcibly took her, along with other ASHA workers, in the police van to a nearby police station.
Earlier, a large number of ASHA workers assembled in front of the office, demanding that the state government increase their salary up to Rs 18,000, which was a pre-poll promise by the Congress leaders.
It may be noted that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy promised to hike the salary of Asha workers during elections but nothing concrete has been done till date to implement it.
