Hyderabad: Members of Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam (KTCB) have found sculptures and Kakatiya period inscriptions in a ruined temple in Chintalapalem mandal of Suryapet district.
According to a press release, the Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam members, Elleti Chanti have identified some isolated statues in the ruined temple of Chintala Cheruvu Kota.
The temple has a four-leafed flower as its main image, and there is no statue in the temple. Post-Kakatiya style, a 5-foot-high octagonal Veerabhadra statue, found lying in the courtyard is a sculpture made of pink stone.
There are statues of Veera and Veera’s Sati in the satishila erected between three stone pillars and, judging by the style, this satishila belongs to the 15th century, Sri Ramoju Haragopal, convenor, Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam, said in a press release.
The inscription found in the Chintalapalem mandal centre has a 10-line Telugu script and a 13th-century donation inscription in Telugu from the Kakatiya period, he added.
