Kumram Bheem-Asifabad: Sighting of a tiger at a stream, locally known as Bokkivagu located between Lodpalli and Penchikalpet villages in Penchikalpet mandal, created flutter and led to a panic among motorists on Friday.
Ganesh, an auto-rickshaw driver told ‘Telangana Today’ that he had spotted the tiger in a bush on the banks of the stream and abutting a road between Lodpalli and Penchikalpet mandal at 2.30 pm. He stated that he had alerted foresters and motorists who were using the stretch. The tiger returned to the wild after staying for around an hour in the bush, he added.
Residents of Lodpalli village situated on forest fringes said that they had noticed the tiger wandering on the road near the stream in the morning. Prasad, one of the locals, said that the tiger was frequenting the stream at regular intervals to quench its thirst. He requested the officials of the Forest department to take steps to divert the wild animal into deep forests.
Penchikalpet Forest Range Officer S Venugopal said that awareness was being created among the rural folks over the movement of tigers. He requested the public to avoid sudden confrontation with the tiger and not to venture into dense forests. He stated that the stream was a passage between the corridor of the tiger and landscapes.
It may be recalled that a video clip of a tiger quenching thirst in the similar stream went viral on social media a few months back. Big cats are spotted when crossing the road between Lodpalli and Sulugupalli of Bejjur mandal at Golla Devara temple, terrorising motorists. However, the carnivores that are sighted on this road and stretch have not harmed humans so far.
In 2020, in two-separate incidents, a tiger named A2 had killed a tribal youngster and girl at Digida village of Dahegaon mandal and Kondapalli village of Penchikalpet mandal. It developed an aberrant behavior and foresters made a vain bid to capture it. Kaghaznagar forest division registered over 50 cattle killings by the tiger from April, 2020 to October of 2021.
