Adilabad: Tribals living in remote villages continue to remain isolated with disruption of traffic on roads due to swelling of streams during monsoon season.

For instance, villagers remained cut off from the rest of the world after a bridge across the local stream was overflowing due to heavy rains at Kushnepalli and Somini villages in Bejjur mandal. They regretted that they would have to wade through streams in spate, during medical emergencies, risking their lives.

The hapless residents of Kammaragaon, Jilleda, Morliguda villages in Penchikalpet mandal, several villages in Chintalamaneplli, Sirpur (T), Dahegaon and Kagaznagar mandals are witnessing similar grim conditions following breaching of roads and inundation of causeways each monsoon in the district. They urged the officials to take steps to address the challenge.

The Roads and Building officials said that 26 roads and 41 causeways were identified as vulnerable across Adilabad district alone. They stated that proposals were submitted to the government seeking Rs 85 lakh to repair the roads and causeways if breached and flooded. They added that material such as gravel and earth movers was kept ready for restoration of traffic.

In Mancherial, 13 roads were identified as vulnerable, according to Roads and Building officials. Steps would be taken to repair the roads if damaged by rains. Proposals were sent to the higher officials requesting funds to patch up the stretches. They added that a major portion of roads battered by heavy rains last year was improved.

Similarly, nine roads were identified to be vulnerable as per information provided by the officials. Roads between Bhainsa and Peddarpadi, Takli-Dodapur, Arli-Mudhole, Daulatabad-Kharbala, Bhainsa-Palsi, Kallur, Downelli, Jewla, Sonari, Narsapur-Soan and Eidgaon and Koutla were found prone to damage by the rains, as per data shared by the officials.

However, executing agencies that took up repair works on the breached roads in 2025 were reportedly irked by delay in payment of the bills. They are said to be vexed about roaming around offices to secure payments.

The officials attributed severe fund crunch, faced by the government, to delay in clearing the bills. They stated that measures were being taken to expedite payment of the bills.
