Hyderabad: Sometimes stories go haywire when filmmakers fail to differentiate between a medical condition and a phobia.
The story of ‘Atithi Devobhava’ is about Abhay Ram (played by Aadi Saikumar) who loses his father at a young age and gets nurtured with extreme care and love from his mother. Occasionally, he gets frightened of being alone and this monophobia gradually impacts his life further.
As he embarks on a flourishing career as a CEO of a corporate firm, Abhay gets floored by a girl named Vaishnavi, played by Nuveksha. And their relationship heads to marriage without further drama. How Abhay overcomes his fears and psychological illness to marry his partner is the story.
Actor Aadi Saikumar has done well in the initial stages of his career. However good his performance might appeal to audiences, his career has been constantly put to test with a series of duds at the box office. And with ‘Atithi Devobhava’, he still tries to find foot in the industry.
Nuveksha has done her part, but the characterisation could have been more than just a limited-sketchy outlook.
Bringing in actor-comedian Saptagiri into the story ends in the comedy track appearing forced upon the viewers.
The film tests your patience with its underwriting and ineffective screenplay, but Nageswar’s directorial boasts some good music and soulful melodies. Music rendered by Shekar Chandra should be praised.
Other characters like Ravi Prakash, Gundu Sudarshan, Raghu Karamanchi and Adarsh Balakrishna have done well within the limited space.
Film: Atithi Devobhava
Cast: Aadi Saikumar, Nuveksha, Saptagiri
Director: Polimera Nageshwar
