Nalgonda: Activists of the Backward Classes Students’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Saturday staged a protest at the Clock Tower Centre in Nalgonda town, tying banners around donkeys demanding immediate resignation of all BC Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and MLCs.
They made the demand accusing the BC legislators of failing to secure adequate reservation benefits for the community.
Addressing the protesters, BC Student JAC State president A. Janardhan Goud alleged that despite tall promises made by both Congress and BJP to provide 42% to 60% representation to BCs, by fielding BC candidates including in general category seats, no political party had shown seriousness in implementing the assurances in practice.
“During the previous BRS government, GO Ms No. 9 had reserved around 5,300 Sarpanch posts across the State exclusively for BCs. Yet today, not a single party is even willing to commit to that minimum benchmark,” Janardhan Goud charged.
He asserted that if political parties were genuinely sincere about BC welfare, at least 6,000 out of the total gram panchayat Sarpanch posts should legally belong to BC candidates.
“Open category does not mean reservation for forward castes. Turning BC-reserved posts into open category seats is nothing but sabotaging BC reservations,” he said, giving a call to the community to contest en masse in open category sarpanch seats across Telangana.
“BCs must capture power at the village level. The Sarpanch seat is the foundation for BC political empowerment. It is the responsibility of the entire BC society to ensure victory of BC candidates also in general seats,” he declared.
Janardhan Goud warned that the ongoing agitation for BC reservations in local bodies would be intensified irrespective of the election schedule.
