Khammam: Sharing personal information on social media could make women and girls victims of cyber-bullying, cautioned Khammam RPF Inspector of Police (CI), K Madhusudhan.
Excessive and imprudent use of the internet has been making women and teenage girls vulnerable to exploitation by crooks in recent times, he said, addressing girl students at Dr BR Ambedkhar Gurukul College at NSP Camp area here on Friday.

Madhusudhan noted that cyber-bullying of Indian women and teenagers has increased by 36 per cent as per the data released recently by the National Crime Records Bureau. Since internet and social media usage has become an integral part of individuals, women and girls must be careful while using social media.
He explained the safety measures to be followed while travelling in trains. In case of any emergency one should call RailMadad helpline number 139 for assistance. He urged the students to set goals in their lives and make efforts to achieve them.
Childline District Coordinator K Srinivas stated that girls have faced great difficulties during the lockdown period. Cases of child marriages and child abuses have increased over the period. Childline has been making continuous efforts to protect the girls’ rights.
Venky Solutions CEO B Venky Naidu made a PowerPoint presentation on the safety measures to be followed while using the social media apps. He suggested switching off the mobile data during nights and not sharing any personal data on Facebook, Whatsapp, Instagram and others.
Ethical hacker G Akhil explained how to check whether trial rooms at shopping malls and hotel rooms were fitted with secret cameras. Sakhi Centre organisers, Venkata Krishna and Aruna, RPF SI, M Venkat Reddy, the college principal Swaroopa Rani and others were present.
