Beneficiary loses Indiramma housing aid midway in Telangana’s Bhongir
A Bhongir resident, initially approved under the Indiramma housing scheme, was denied further funding midway after officials flagged a six-year-old vehicle in his name. Left with mounting debt, he says his dream of owning a home now lies shattered
Bhongir: A beneficiary of the Indiramma housing scheme was left disappointed as he was declared ineligible in the final phase of funding.
Peethla Raju, a resident of Muthireddygudem village in Motakonduru mandal, was informed by the officials that his approved house would not receive further financial assistance, leaving his dream of owning a house shattered. It had already left him drowned in debt.
Raju, who had pinned all his hopes on the scheme to secure a roof for his family, borrowed heavily from moneylenders, sold gold jewellery, and even sacrificed his children’s future savings to kickstart construction on what he believed was his home. Raju was considered for the scheme after a thorough scrutiny of his financial status.
He plunged into construction immediately, only to be disqualified midway through the process. Officials arrived at the site and informed him that his house will not be approved for funding. The rejection followed a routine asset verification that flagged a vehicle registered in Raju’s name six years ago.
According to officials, the first payment was disbursed after an initial scrutiny confirmed Raju had no assets or valuables to his name. However, the subsequent check revealed the old vehicle registration, blocking further funds under the scheme’s eligibility criteria. The beneficiary was informed by an official concerned that the rules are clear, “We cannot overlook discrepancies”.
