Hyderabad: Visitors to the All India Industrial Exhibition, popular as Numaish, were being fleeced with high vehicle parking fee by the parking mafia, BJP legislator T Raja Singh said on Tuesday.
Alleging a scam in the ongoing exhibition, Raja Singh, in a video message, said the exhibition society and district administration allowed the parking managements to collect exorbitant charges from visitors.
“At the Nampally college grounds, a parking fee of Rs 160 for four wheeler and Rs 80 for a two-wheeler is being charged. How come the parking management were allowed to fix such high charges,” he said in the video.
The exhibition society was minting money from the stall allotments and parking, he said while alleging, “Commission is being paid to Ministers by the society and lots of scams are taking place in the allotment of shops and parking venues.”
The MLA said visitors were being fleeced by the parking mafia and charged that the administration did not hold consultations on parking venues. “Without holding any meeting, the officials allowed parking places to be set up and charge exorbitantly,” he complained.
When contacted D Suresh Kumar, convener of All India Industrial Society said only at Nampally College parking fee is collected while at other parking places there was no parking fee.
G Vijay Kumar, Inspector Begum Bazaar police station said they verified the complaint and found that the education department auctioned the parking space at the Nampally College. “The parking management at Nampally College participated in the auction and bagged the contract. They are authorised to collect the parking fee,” he said adding that there are also several free parking spots around exhibition grounds for visitors.
