Khammam: The members of Khammam Youth Association, an NGO based in the city, distributed blankets to street dwellers in Khammam.

The KYA members D Sreekanth, T Yeshwanth and T Arjun in a statement here on Thursday informed that they have embarked upon a blanket distribution drive from Dec 18 to 23.

Blankets to street dwellers were distributed in Khammam, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Patna in Bihar and Bhubaneswar in Odisha.

The association has initiated ‘Blanket drive – for the homeless” in the year 2017 to protect street dwellers in the winter season from night cold. There was no better gift than providing warm clothing to the needy during the winter chills.

With nighttime temperatures dropping drastically the homeless people living on pavements, near bus stands and railway stations were experiencing the bitterness of winter and faced the risk of suffering from illnesses. Hence the blanket drive was taken up, Sreekanth said.

The blanket drive started In 2017 by serving 25 street dwellers extended to 220 street dwellers in the year 2020. The KYA members Ranga Rao, Ch Vikas, T Uday Kiran, Rahul, Varun, Varshini, Bhavya, Kayatti and Shashi took part in the programme.
