Sangareddy: With many of the bodies retrieved from the Sigachi Chloro Chemicals Private Limited blast site remaining unidentified, officials have begun collecting blood samples from the families of victims to assist in the identification process.
By Tuesday morning, only 11 out of the 35 bodies recovered from the blast site had been identified. The remaining 24 bodies could not be identified due to severe burns and mutilation. Sixteen more workers were still untraceable as search operations continued at the site.
To expedite identification through DNA matching, a blood sample collection counter has been set up at the Industrial Local Area Authority (ILA) office in Pashamylaram. Health Department staff collected blood samples from 19 families by Tuesday evening. Another collection centre was established at the government hospital in Patancheru, where all the bodies have been kept in the mortuary.
Since most of the victims were migrant workers from northern States, several of them did not have immediate relatives available locally. Officials expect the blood relatives of such victims to arrive in Patancheru by Wednesday to provide samples.
A help desk has also been set up at the ILA office to assist families. Officials were seen collecting personal details from those who approached them and sharing whatever information they had in return.
